State of Orissa v. Ram Bahadur Thapa: The Catalyst
In May 1958, Jagat Bandhu Chatterjee (PW 29) and his Nepali servant Ram Bahadur Thapa came to Rasgovindpur, Balasore district, to purchase scrap metal from an abandoned World War II aerodrome. The local Adivasi villagers believed the aerodrome was haunted by ghosts on Tuesday and Saturday nights. On a Tuesday night, a villager (Chandra Majhi) sought shelter at their tea stall, terrified to walk home alone. Intrigued, Chatterjee, Thapa, and tea stall owner Krishna Chandra Patro escorted him home and walked back across the aerodrome around midnight to see the ghosts.
